A düğün with dramaturgy

What a Turkish wedding asks of the DJ

A Turkish wedding (düğün) is rarely just one evening: Kına Gecesi, Nişan and the wedding itself each have their own running order, and the guest list can be large. On top come moments that need timing and a microphone — the entrance, the bride's pick-up, the gift ceremony. Veysel has played at Turkish and German-Turkish celebrations for over 12 years, plays saz and guitar live and hosts in Turkish, German and English.

What sets it apart

A Turkish celebration, one point of contact

  • From Turkish pop to halay

Turkish pop, halay classics and Roman havası; Turkish art music live on the saz on request. Plus international tracks so guests without Turkish roots dance along too.

  • Gelin çıkarma, bando & davul zurna

Traditions need timing: the bride's pick-up, davul zurna moments, bando and the couple's entrance are planned in the planning call — with a live orchestra including brass on request.

  • Hosting in Turkish

Announcements, programme items and transitions in Turkish, and in German or English as well when guests are mixed. That keeps the room together.

Typical running order

Building blocks of a Turkish wedding

Order and weight differ by region and family. These building blocks come up often and are agreed together in the planning call.

  1. Nişan (engagement)

The engagement with ring exchange and a family celebration is often a party of its own, with its own music and programme.

  2. Kına Gecesi (henna night)

The henna ceremony with emotional music, usually among family and friends. It has a very different mood from the wedding party.

  3. Gelin Çıkarma (bride's pick-up)

The bride is collected from her parents' home, with davul zurna or bando on request. A moment that gets its effect from music and timing.

  4. Entrance and opening

The couple's entrance and first dance set the tone for the evening. Song, lighting mood and hosting are matched to each other.

  5. Takı ceremony

Guests present gifts to the couple. The moment needs calm, a microphone and a clear announcement to stay dignified.

  6. Halay and dance programme

Halay rounds connect several generations. The dance programme alternates between Turkish and international music so every guest finds a place on the dance floor.
